The Ale Corner is the first micro-pub in Hanley and as such among the pioneers of this new class of pub in Staffordshire. It is located, as the name suggests on the corner of Stafford Street and Bryan Street, just below the Potteries Shopping Centre and very near to the new cinema and restaurant complex.

As with all micro-pubs, The Ale Corner offers a constant rotation of real ales, the product of micro-breweries not only in this county, but also from some of the most renowned micro-breweries in the United Kingdom. The aim is to give the discerning customer a choice of top-quality brew according to taste, including smooth stouts, hoppy bitters and pale ales. Of course not everyone is an ale enthusiast and so the Ale Corner also caters for those bringing along company who appreciate an alternative, such as a fine red wine, a sparkling flute of prosecco or a soft drink. Cider aficionados will find a counterpart to real ale herein they want to sample the best produce of the cider brewers’ craft. Drinks, of course, can be accompanied by the traditional bar snacks.

The luminous, welcoming interior of The Ale Corner, is matched by the owner-barman, Paolo, who is always eager to chat with new customers and to share his experiences that go well beyond the confines of Hanley where he lives. Just don’t get him talking about his favourite local rugby team!

On a serious note, The Ale Corner, like all micropubs offers the chance for uninterrupted conversation without the distractions of flashing lights and screens. Here, you can meet and get to know people in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere over a decent pint of real ale.

It is with regret that Hanley has lost it’s only Micropub.

Hanley has struggled for a long while to keep its real ale scene. Paolo made a very brave gamble by trying to set-up something different in Hanley. However the move did not pay off and after 6 months has had to close.
It was a really nice and friendly place when open. I wish him the best of luck in any future ventures.
