The name The Tankerton Arms was taken from an old Tankerton favourite which stood at the top of Tankerton Slopes and closed several years ago much to the dismay of locals and visitors alike. The premises was formerly a tattoo parlour and the word Tattoo remains on the glass above the pub frontage. There is no bar counter and there are long wooden raised bench seats fitted  with 3 heavy chest-height wooden tables. Patsy and Nigel run this place and they really are the best of hosts.

My ‘local’ micropub but despite the bias this place is a real gem. Far enough away from the tourism chaos that is Whitstable town centre, this haven of good beer, good conversation and good humour guarantees a warm welcome. Always a good range of local ales as well as guests from further afield, even the crisps are Kent made, as are the pork pies ( from the butcher across the road)! Quieter of a lunchtime, ‘The Tank’ can get more crowded than a Japanese tube train during rush hour of a weekend, but this just goes to show how popular it is!
